With its premier location in the centre of Grassington, this spacious and stylish two-bedroom, two-bathroom duplex apartment is your perfect base in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Siegfried's Retreat was fully refurbished in 2022, and welcomes holiday-makers, walkers, cyclists - and their canine friends - to relax and enjoy superb accommodation at the heart of this charming Wharfedale village.

Grassington has a starring role as the fictional market town of Darrowby in the most recent, very popular TV series of James Herriot’s ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. Little has changed since the 1940s, when the bestselling author was a rural vet in the Dales, which is why this unspoilt, picturesque village, with its traditional Yorkshire stone buildings and tranquil ambience, is ideal for a relaxing break.

The cobbled market square is fringed by independent artisan shops, art galleries, and convivial cafés serving delicious, homemade fare. Great pubs pull craft ales, pour favourite tipples (and many make dogs as welcome as their humans); restaurants focus their menus on locally sourced, seasonal produce whilst catering for individual diet, taste and budget... all enhanced by the breathtakingly beautiful Dales backdrop.

The area has something for everyone: scenic walks and cycling routes for all levels; visitor attractions such as the fascinating Stump Cross Caverns; and Coldstones Cut - an outdoor sculpture which commands spectacular views. For the kids highlights include The Forbidden Corner, Billy Bob’s Parlour and Hesketh Farm, to name just a few. Skipton with its castle and bustling market is approximately 15 minutes drive, and the cosmopolitan spa town of Harrogate is less than an hour away.

Siegfried's Retreat offers superbly appointed, high-quality accommodation overlooking the market square at the very centre of Grassington. It has been named after Siegfried Farnon - the owner of the veterinary practice and James Herriot's employer in the books. The most recent TV series features the house next door as the vets' practice and home, hence the apartment is ideally placed as a retreat for Siegfried!

The accommodation is spread over the first and second floors, accessed via a door at ground floor/street level which opens into a hallway with adequate space for the storage of walking equipment, and up to two bicycles. Steps to the first floor bring you to a spacious kitchen/diner equipped with an electric hob, full-sized oven, washing machine, fridge with ice box (no freezer), dishwasher and a dining table which comfortably seats up to six people. The spacious living room has a Smart TV, plenty of seating and views over the square, Also on the first floor is the house bathroom with a large walk-in shower, WC, wash basin and heated towel rail.. A flight of stairs takes you to the second floor which has two good-sized bedrooms: the master bedroom with a super king bed, en-suite with bath and shower over, WC, wash basin and heated towel rail; the second bedroom also has a super king which can split and made up as twin beds.

All bedding and towels are provided, as well as a hairdryer, iron and ironing board, and the property has free WiFi throughout. There are good-sized local car parks at both ends of the village, just a few minutes’ walk, and there may be parking places available in the marketplace, minimal rate charges apply to all parking locations.
